Awards & Honors
- 9th grade:
- Business Technology Essentials -- This academic achievement award was presented to the top three students in the business technology course.
- Principal’s Award -- This is given to student’s who maintain an A average all year.
- Distinguished Achievement -- This was given to student’s who maintain an A average over the duration of 7th, 8th, and 9th grade.
- Top Ten -- This award was given to the students with the ten highest GPAs.
- Reflections Contest Winner -- Reflections is a PTA sponsored cultural arts program that recognizes artwork in the categories of literature, visual art, photography, and musical composition.
- Karate Belt Promotion -- I received the rank of Gokyu in Shin Nagare Karate at Spirit Made Steel.
- All-District -- Instrumentalists from grades 7-9 audition to be a part of the All-District honor band, and a limited number are chosen.
- 1st Chair Flautist (9th & 11th) -- Auditions for Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band placed instrumentalists in chair order. 1st chair instrumentalists earned the highest scores and often performed solos in concert.
- Musicfest Orlando -- The Wind Ensemble placed 1st in the concert competition. The guard placed 1st in the indoor competition as well as in the parade competition.
- Solo & Ensemble Superiors -- Solo & Ensemble is an evaluation of the skill of individual or group instrumentalists. Superior is the highest rating that can be received.
- 12, 13, & 14 Years Awards (9th-11th) -- Awards are given for the number of years a student has taken dance from The Dance Company.
- 10th grade:
- Outstanding Student in Interior Design -- This award was presented to the one student who displayed outstanding talent and academic acomplishment in the interior design class.
- Perfect Attendance Award -- This award was presented to the students with perfect attendance.
- Academic Top Ten (10th-11th) -- Students are ranked according to their overall GPA. I was ranked in the top ten out of 600+ students.
- Youth Representative Plaque (10th -11th) -- This is awarded to the youth representatives at Trinity Baptist Church for displaying leadership and good character.
Leadership Positions
- 9th grade:
- Wind Ensemble Officer -- Officers’ duties included leading sectionals, organizing music, and planning events.
- Vacation Bible School Leader (9th-12th) -- I have been a children’s music and motions teacher each year, and I also help lead in opening music.
- 10th grade:
- Winter Guard -- I choreographed dances for the winter guard, was a soloist dancer, and placed in the Body Movement category. I was also a commanding officer who represented the winter guard at multiple competitions.
- Youth Representative (10th -- 12th) -- This is a leadership role within the Trinity Baptist Church Youth group. Youth representatives help plan youth activities, work to involve younger youth, welcome visitors and new members, create devotionals, lead in worship, send cards to college students, and develop leadership skills.
- Big Brother/ Big Sister (10th-11th) -- This is a program developed to introduce upcoming youth to the Trinity Baptist Church Youth group. Big Brothers and Big Sisters are assigned Little Brothers and Little Sisters, and they send them cards, invitations to events, and goody bags for special holidays.
- 11th grade:
- Color Guard Captain (11th-12th) -- Color guard captains are selected by the instructor after completing at least one year of color guard and submitting an essay. Captains’ duties include leading a rank, leading the guard in warm ups and cleaning routine, transporting equipment, organizing events, and any other tasks provided by the instructor.
- Flute Choir Student Teacher (11th) -- I was assigned a flute student to tutor during flute choir rehearsals.
- 12th grade:
- Tri-M Music Honor Society Officer -- I was elected as the Historian of Tri-M. The responsibilities of the Historian include documenting events and service projects, maintaining a scrapbook, and any tasks necessary for a productive and successful honor society.
School Activities
- 9th grade
- Wind Ensemble -- The Wind Ensemble was the highest level band in 9th grade under the direction of Johnny Nash.
- Indoor Guard -- The color guard and drumline worked together to create an indoor show for competitions.
- Flute Choir (9th - 11th) -- The flute choir, under the direction of Jeanette Watson and Becca Wortham, performed at school events and volunteered in community activities, such as Santa’s Village, Sam’s Club, Clay Museum open house, Parade of Homes, BAE System Christmas parties, and the Morningside nursing home.
- Color Guard (9th-12th) -- The color guard provides visual effects for the marching band. The guard placed 1st in the Peach Bowl Parade competition, and has received the Best in Class award at multiple marching competitions.
- Fellowship of Christian Students -- This group met each Wednesday morning to have a time of devotion and fellowship with other Christians from the same school.
- 10th grade:
- Symphonic Band -- The Symphonic Band was the highest level band for grades 10+ under the direction of Doyle Thorton.
- Winter Guard (10th-12th) -- Winter guard consists of more difficult routine and more dance aspects than marching band color guard. The competitions are held indoor. The winter guard received 1st place at a competition in Smyrna, TN.
- Spanish Club (10th-12th) -- This club is an organization of students who have been enrolled in Spanish classes.
- 11th grade:
- Tri-M Music Honor Society (11th-12th) -- This honor society is specifically for musically inclined students in which membership is based on scholarship, leadership, and service.
- National Honor Society (11th-12th) -- Certification for this honor society includes a GPA of at least 3.5 and involvement in the school and community. Membership is based on scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
- 12th grade:
- Family Career and Community Leaders of America -- FCCLA is an organization to promote personal growth and leadership development through Family and Consumer Sciences education. It focuses on the multiple roles of a family member, wage earner and community leader. Members develop skills for life through character development, creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communications, practical knowledge, and career preparation.
- Mu Alpha Theta -- This is a math-related honor society. Membership is based on scholarship, leadership, and service.
- First Priority (10th & 12th) -- First Priority is an organization of Christian students who meet every Thursday to worship together. This program reaches out to others through service projects and volunteering.
Work
- Childcare (11th-12th) -- I work with 1st-6th grade girls for the Trinity Baptist Wednesday Night Childcare program.
Community Involvement
- Youth Mission Projects -- The Trinity Baptist Youth group volunteers at the Asbury thrift store where we help organize, clean, and create display windows. We also volunteer at Madison Manor and Morningside, where we give hand massages, pass out candy, sing, and play bingo with the elderly. This group also sponsors two children from Albania. We send Mario and Blerina birthday gifts each year, and money to assist with education and other necessities that they lack.
- Passport Missions -- These missions include yard work for the elderly, visiting the Monroe Square nursing home and the Alzheimer’s wing, cleaning children’s learning centers, working with the children at the Booker T. Washington Institute, and volunteering at the mentally challenged center.
- Praise Team (9th grade) -- Praise Team consists of a group of youth who meet each week to prepare a worship service for the end of every month. This includes music (vocal and instrumental), skits, reading scripture, prayer, and a sermon.
- Youth Choir (9th-12th) -- The Trinity Baptist Youth Choir rehearses every Sunday afternoon to prepare for worship and musicals.
